NFL Writer Names One Critical Reason Why Patriots Can Win Super Bowl
The Patriots were one of the biggest surprises of the NFL season, achieving significant success for a variety of reasons. One key factor behind New England’s remarkable regular season was quarterback Drake Maye.
Maye has established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL this season, and CBS Sports’ JP Acosta believes Maye is the one key factor in a Patriots’ potential Super Bowl victory this year.
“Part of what makes Drake Maye’s MVP-caliber season so awesome is that he’s remained razor efficient and sharp while also being aggressive downfield,” Acosta wrote on Friday. “He leads the NFL in EPA per dropback while also being tied with Rams QB Matthew Stafford in Air Yards per Attempt.
“His efficiency on deep passes help open up lanes in the run game for the Patriots, where they have a home run hitter in Treveyon Henderson and RB Rhamondre Stevenson, who put together the best game of the season in the finale against the Dolphins.”
Maye threw for 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns this season. If he can transfer his regular season performance to the playoffs, the Patriots are going to be a tough team to beat.
The 23-year-old quarterback will experience his first taste of the postseason this Sunday as the Patriots face off against the Los Angeles Chargers in a wild-card matchup.
