Why Aren't David Harbour And Winona Ryder In The New Stranger Things Documentary?
Following the mixed reaction to the recent Stranger Things finale, a behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the hit show has shot to the top of Netflix’s most-watched right chart.
At the time of writing, One Last Adventure: The Making Of Stranger Things 5 is the number one movie on the platform, with award-winning filmmaker Martina Radwan offering fans a glimpse behind the curtain at how the epic finale came to be.
However, while the doc features on-camera interviews with the likes of Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin, it’s been noted that cast members like Winona Ryder and David Harbour – in other words, the show’s “grown-ups” – were not included in this.
During a new interview with Variety about the doc, Martina insisted that this was not a deliberate choice on her part, and that she simply didn’t have time to speak to Winona or David for her film.
“We just didn’t get the time,” she insisted. “They were busy with other projects, and so we didn’t have the time to sit down.”
“Unfortunately, with David and Winona, we couldn’t find the time. We tried,” she added.
For her own to-camera interview, Millie reflected on the show between scenes, still in Eleven’s wardrobe and makeup – including one of her signature nosebleeds.
“That was Millie’s idea!” Martina enthused. “She was like, ‘This is my last day, I’m in character’...”
Although the regular run of Stranger Things is now officially over (despite popular fan theories you may have read online last week), fans do still have plenty to look forward to from that world.
Creators The Duffer Brothers have already made no secret of the fact they’re exploring different live-action spin-off ideas, while there’s an animated series coming later this year, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, set between the second and third seasons of the Emmy-winning series.
