What Is a ‘Choppleganger’? People Are Calling This Funny Insult ‘The Best Gen Alpha Word of All Time’
Teens just found a creative new way to throw shade at others, and people are loving how funny and creative this is. The word is “choppleganger,” and expect to hear it a lot more this month.
Middle school teacher and resident teen slang guru Mr. Lindsay shared a TikTok explained choppleganger, which is a mix between “chopped” and “doppelgänger.”
“’Choppleganger’ is the melding of two words,” Mr. Lindsay explains in the video. “We’ve got ‘doppelgänger,’ which you guys all know is someone who you’re not related to but looks just like you, and ‘chopped’ is a word that kids use to describe something as ‘ugly’ or ‘undesirable.’”
So, a choppleganger is someone who looks like someone else, but is an “uglier version.” “It’s the off-brand lookalike,” Mr. Lindsay says. “The Great Value or Temu version, if you will.”
He said he first learned this word after a teen called him “Kirk Cousins’ choppleganger.” It’s almost like a backhanded compliment — saying you sort of resemble someone else, except you aren’t as pretty or cool as them — and people love it.
“Not gonna lie this word is fantastic. I’m gonna give it to em on this one ????” one person praised. Another wrote, “That’s actually kinda clever. Way to go Gen Alpha ????”
“this might be the best gen alpha word of all time,” one person commented.
Hey, for a generation who has made “six-seven” popular for no reason at all, we’ll take choppleganger! It actually makes sense and is funny. We’ll take it!
