Is a New Costco Coming to Your Area? Company Investing $6.5 Billion as Part of Expansion Plan With 28 New Warehouses
So many consumers make regular trips to their local Costco that social media can become flooded with posts when new products are introduced. However, other people don't have one of the company's warehouse locations near enough to make it possible for them to consistently experience the reasons why Costco has so many loyal customers.
Now, it has been revealed that Costco has announced major plans to invest billions as they will open 28 new warehouse locations in the fiscal year 2026. That leaves consumers wanting to know if there will be a grand opening near them.
The Locations of Costco’s Confirmed New Warehouse Openings
At the time of publication, the locations of many of Costco's planned 2026 warehouse openings remain a mystery. However, a page on Costco's website lists the upcoming warehouse openings that have been confirmed to be happening soon. Of the seven currently confirmed locations, six are in the U.S., and one is a Business Center that will open in Canada. The full list of upcoming openings appears below.
- W Roseville, CA - January 2026
- Liberty Hill, TX - March 2026
- Forney, TX - March 2026
- S St George, UT - March 2026
- North Visalia, CA - April 2026
- New Braunfels, TX - April 2026
- Winnipeg, MB Business Center - April 2026
Even though Costco's expansion plans in 2026 go a lot further than that, there is a reason why the other upcoming openings haven't been confirmed. In April 2024, Inside Halton received a statement from a Costco spokesperson stating the company's policy doesn't allow any public comments until an opening is near. “Unfortunately, it is our company policy to not comment regarding future Costco warehouses until we are ready to share details about the new location (usually two to three months in advance).” There is no indication that policy has changed since then.
Costco’s Aggressive Expansion Plans Include Investing Billions To Open 28 Warehouse Locations in 2026
On January 14th, 2026, The U.S. Sun updated its article which states that Costco plans to open 28 new warehouse locations in fiscal year 2026, which would significantly enlarge the company's worldwide foothold. Since the company had its first opening on September 15th, 1983, in Seattle, Washington, its growth is impressive to consider since a January 7th, 2026 report on Costco's website states the company currently was running 923 warehouses worldwide. The per country breakdown is as follows: 633 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 114 in Canada, 42 in Mexico, 37 in Japan, 29 in the United Kingdom, 20 in Korea, 15 in Australia, 14 in Taiwan, 7 in China, 5 in Spain, 3 in France, 2 in Sweden, and 1 each in Iceland and New Zealand. Given how rapidly Costco has expanded, it is worth noting that its 2026 expansion plans are more modest than what the company had previously announced
A September 2025 Fox Business article, which recapped Costco's fourth quarter fiscal year 2025 earnings call, reveals that the company's plans previously were more aggressive. While speaking to investors, Costco President and CEO Ron Vachris described how many warehouse openings were planned at that time. "We plan to open another 35 warehouses in fiscal year [2026], of which five are relocations. We continue to see significant opportunities for expansion, both domestically and internationally, across the markets where we currently operate."
In December 2025, The Motley Fool published a transcript of Costco's first quarter fiscal year 2026 earnings call that happened at that time. While delivering remarks, Vachris explained that international delays were responsible for the number of planned openings dropping from 35 to 28. "While delays with a couple of our buildings in Spain resulted in us revising our planned net new openings for fiscal year 2026 down to 28, we continue to plan for 30-plus net openings per year in future years."
The transcript also detailed Costco's planned $6.5 billion investment plan that was linked to the costs of opening new warehouses. While that spending also involves other factors, like remodels, depot network expansion, and digital investments, Costco CFO Gary Millerchip prominently brought up the openings while discussing the figure. "Capital expenditure in Q1 was approximately $1.53 billion. As shared last quarter, we are making additional investments to support a higher number of new warehouse openings, increased warehouse remodels to drive continued growth in existing high-volume buildings, depot network expansion, and digital. We estimate capital expenditure for the full year will be approximately $6.5 billion."
