Stranraer v Queen’s Park – Scottish Cup match preview
IN FORM Queen’s Park head to Stranraer in the second half of a cup double to kick off 2026.
The big chill saw league games at Ayr and at home to St Johnstone off and the Spiders finally got the new year underway with a late win against Forfar in the KDM Evolution Trophy.
Now, Sean Crighton’s side head south hoping for a similar outcome in their second consecutive cup tie, at Stranraer.
This time it’s Scottish Gas Scottish Cup duty though after Queen’s successfully negotiated Linlithgow Rose in the last round infront of the BBC Scotland cameras.
Since that win there’s only been one defeat – a last-gasp winner from Morton at Cappielow – as Sean Crighton’s side have picked up points and progress in the knock-out competitions,.
That means they head to Stair Park on the back of three wins from their last four and five in their last nine games.
The head coach has done his homework though – watching the Blues against midweek opponents Forfar last weekend and the Spiders will be ready for another tough challenge on the road.

The Season so far...
Stranraer set up Saturday afternoon’s fourth round tie with a 2-1 extra-time win over Lowland League title contenders Clydebank.
That followed Queen’s Park’s own third round win over Lowland League opposition when goals from Euan Murray, Grant Savoury and Josh Fowler gave the Spiders a comeback win under the Friday Night Lights at Prestonfield.
And the BBC cameras.
Viewers were denied a cup upset though as Sean Crighton’s team successfully negotiated the tricky opening spell at the tight West Lothian ground.
There’s a bit further to travel this weekend, but no less another tricky venue and tight pitch at Stair Park.
Chris Aitken’s side are in the promotion mix, with 25 points from 25 games placing them fourth in William Hill League Two, but wins have been hard to come by down the Rhins of Galloway with only two in the league – but plenty on cup duty.
The Blues made the last 16 of the KDM Evolution Trophy and have enjoyed wins over Glenafton and the Bankies at home in the national competition. They also had a penalty shoot-out win over Ross County to start the season and took Queen of the South’s scalp in the Premeir Sports Cup group stages.
Former Spider Lewis Reid is in the ranks, while Deryn Lang leads the club scoring with 11 across all competitions this term.

Queen’s Park Supporters’ Association are running two buses to the game. The first sold out quickly and, due to demand, a second was added to cheer on Sean Crighton’s side on the 175-mile round trip.
