Will His & Hers Get A Season 2 On Netflix? Here's Everything We Know
We’re deep into thriller season, and one of Netflix’s many new offerings, His & Hers, has already proved hugely popular, and at the time of writing, is the number one most-watched show on the platform.
Because of that, there’s a good chance you’ve already torn through the whodunnit, and you’re wondering if any more episodes could be in the pipeline, or if it’s the end of the road and time to move on to a new obsession.
And, without giving too much away, after that twist in the final episode we don’t blame you for having questions.
Luckily, we’ve done all the research on what the future holds for His & Hers…
Will there be a season 2 of His & Hers?
The bad news is, His & Hers was billed as a “limited series”, which generally means it was a one-off with the plan for it to be a self-contained “one and done” series.
At the time of writing, Netflix hasn’t announced a second season.
It’s also worth mentioning that His & Hers is based on Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name, which is also a stand-alone story with no written prequels or sequels. So, any new season would have to have a completely fresh storyline.
What have the cast and crew of His & Hers said about a potential season 2?
When asked about the possibility of a second season, His & Hers executive producer William Oldroyd enigmatically told TV Insider they’d “have to ask Netflix”.
“It was conceived as a limited series,” he elaborated. “We didn’t think beyond that. I think we’ve created some great characters.
“The twist is terrific, and the audience is really reacting to it [...] Again, I think you have to ask Netflix to see what plans they have.”
When pushed, Oldroyd said if there were to be a second season, the choice would be whether to pick up the plot immediately after that twist or “start from a position which is further down the line”.
Tessa Thompson, who plays lead character Anna, also seemed unconvinced about another series when she spoke to The Playlist, explaining: “This secret will either be kept by Anna or not. And that will leave audiences to wonder.
“I think it feels like a perfect ending in that way.”
So, what exactly is the good news for His & Hers fans hoping for a season 2?
In that same interview Tessa floated the idea of future series of His & Hers that follow different characters entirely.
“There could be another ‘his’ and another ‘hers’,” she said. “There are many stories that can be told within this idea of dual perspectives and trying to wonder whose version of the truth is the one, or if there is even any empirical truth.”
Oh, and plenty more of His & Hers author Alice Feeney’s books are being adapted for the screen, too…
And while we might not get a direct season two of His & Hers, fans might be encouraged to hear that some of Feeney’s other books have been optioned for film and TV adaptations.
These include Sometimes I Lie, which has been picked up by Beetlejuice Beetlejuice producer Tommy Harper for a TV series, according to Deadline. The book tells the story of a woman who awakens from a coma unnoticed by those around her – unable to speak or move, only to hear – setting off an unraveling of secrets.
What’s more, there’s a film adaptation of Beautiful Ugly underway, which follows an author in pursuit of his missing wife after her car is discovered hanging off a cliff, while thriller My Husband’s Wife has been optioned by the team behind Sarah Snook’s recent nail-biting series All Her Fault.
Finally, Variety previously reported that The Crown producer Suzanne Mackie had snagged the rights to Rock Paper Scissors, Feeney’s novel about a rocky marriage that’s put to the test during a suspicious weekend away.
His & Hers is streaming now on Netflix.
