Premeditated murder probe launched after fatal stabbing in Peyia
Police in Paphos are investigating a case of premeditated murder following the death of a 41-year-old man after a stabbing incident in the Peyia area late on Saturday night.
According to the police, they received information around 11.40pm regarding a fight between individuals in the area.
Officers who went to the scene found a 30-year-old man outside a residence, while a short distance away a parked car was located with damage to its front and a shattered rear window.
A few minutes later, during a motorised patrol, police located a vehicle carrying five people, one of whom was suffering from a knife wound.
The occupants were escorted to the general hospital, where the injured man was identified as Georgi Marinov Ivanov, 41, from Bulgaria.
Despite undergoing surgery, he succumbed to his injuries at around 4am.
Also in the vehicle was a 28-year-old man, who was taken to Paphos general hospital with friction burns and abrasions to various parts of his body and was admitted for treatment.
Investigations revealed that the victim and the four others had travelled from Limassol to Paphos after arranging to meet the 30-year-old suspect in an attempt to resolve personal differences.
During a heated argument, the 30-year-old allegedly stabbed the 41-year-old with a knife.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday morning and has been remanded to assist with the investigation.
