Barron was reportedly on a video call with a woman who was not named when he saw a man repeatedly punch her, it was revealed in Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday (January 21), per The Guardian.
Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, faces charges brought forward by the alleged victim, who was reportedly friends with Barron.
Crown Prosecution Service released a transcript of Barron‘s emergency call.
“She’s getting beat up,” Barron could reportedly be heard saying to the operator.
“This was happening about eight minutes ago. I just figured out how to call someone…it’s really an emergency,” he continued.
Barron seemed frustrated by questions about his relationship to the unnamed woman, saying: “I don’t think these details matter, she’s getting beat up, but okay fine, also I met her on social media, I don’t think that matters.”
“Can you stop being rude and actually answer my questions? If you want to help the person, you’ll answer my questions clearly and precisely,” the operator said back.
“Sorry for being rude,” Barron replied, saying he didn’t know the name of the man on the call.
In an email sent to Metropolitan police officers that was also released in court, Barron wrote: “I was told by the victim, who I am very close with, that this individual was giving her difficulty for a long time.”
Barron said what he saw on the video call early on January 18, 2025 was “very brief indeed but indeed prevalent.”
“I didn’t expect her to pick up due to the time difference,” Barron said in the email to police, per reporters inside the courtroom.
“The phone was picked up. The individual who answered was a shirtless man with darkish hair. This view lasted maybe one second…then the view flipped to the victim.”
He said he also asked two U.S. friends to call the police.
Matvei Rumiantsev denies the charges, including “assault, actual bodily harm, two counts of rape, intentional strangulation and perverting the course of justice by putting pressure on the woman to withdraw her complaints,” per The Guardian.
