Jacob Elordi Shares The Very Sweet Way He's Celebrating His First Oscar Nomination
The list of this year’s Oscars contenders is officially out, and Jacob Elordi is nestled in the Best Supporting Actor category for his first ever nomination.
The Australian actor received the nod for his role as the creature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein adaptation, and he’s shared exactly how he’ll be celebrating the massive milestone.
“I’m beside myself,” Jacob told the Hollywood Reporter in response to the news, adding that to celebrate his nomination he’ll be keeping it low-key and “hanging out with my mum and my dog”.
He enthused: “I am so excited. I mean, I’m 28 years old. It’s wind in the sails.”
Jacob also broke down exactly how he found out he’d landed a spot in the Best Supporting Actor category, with his mum playing a key part.
“I fell asleep reading a good book, so I was comfortably asleep,” he explained. “My mother is with me right now, and I heard her phone ring and it woke me from my sleep, and then I heard her feet running up the stairs. She had my whole team on a group FaceTime call.
“Very, very, very exciting. Very sweet for all of us.”
Jacob’s Oscar nomination is perhaps all the more deserved considering he stepped in at the final hour after Andrew Garfield pulled out of the role, giving him just four weeks to prepare for Frankenstein.
And it’s quite apt that he’s celebrating with his dog Layla considering he studied her movement to help work out how Frankenstein’s creature might get from A to B.
Frankenstein won over both critics and viewers, racking up almost 63 million views on Netflix during its first ten days on the streaming service.
Jacob will have to contend with Benicio Del Toro, Delroy Lindo, Sean Penn and Stellan Skarsgård to win the Best Supporting Actor award.
Meanwhile many people were surprised to see Paul Mescal miss out on a place on the list for his depiction of William Shakespeare in Hamnet, which saw his co-star Jessie Buckley pick up a Best Actress nomination as well as Best Picture and Best Director nods.
