New General Nintendo Direct May Be Sooner Than Many May Expect
While Nintendo just hosted a Nintendo Direct yesterday for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, many Nintendo Switch 2 fans are eager to see what Nintendo's 2026 plans are for the Nintendo Switch 2. It turns out, we may not have much longer to wait, according to a reliable leaker.
In today's episode of the Nate the Hate podcast, the leaker alleged that the first major Nintendo Direct for 2026 is likely going to be held the first week of February. "From what I've been told, the first Direct of 2026 will be held the opening week of February," said Nate the Hate. He also specified that Thursday, February 5, seems the most likely date, but is unable to confirm the day with his sources. Thursday is typically the broadcast day for most Nintendo Directs, too.
Nate the Hate, however, could not say for certain if the Direct is a general direct and stated that it easily could be a partner showcase or a smaller show.
The general Nintendo Directs usually provide an overview of what's coming soon for Nintendo as a whole and do not focus on just one title or series, so those showcases often generate the most excitement from fans, as virtually nothing is off the table in terms of announcements, trailers, release dates, or gameplay demos.
Nintendo is juggling several major series anniversaries this year, too, with the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, the 45th anniversary of Donkey Kong, the 40th anniversary of Metroid, and several more. This purported Nintendo Direct could easily be focused on one of those series and not a general Direct, as we currently don't have confirmation from Nintendo if there is a Nintendo Direct scheduled for February or what will be shown if there is one.
Nintendo has not released any official information or event details regarding a potential February Nintendo Direct, but given Nate the Hate's impressive track record and Nintendo's prior event timing patterns, it does seem fairly likely.
