The Traitors Star Rachel Shares Heartbreak Following Death Of Her Mother
The Traitors finalist Rachel Duffy has shared her heartbreak following the death of her mother.
Over the course of her time on The Traitors, Rachel told viewers that she had been hoping to win the show so she could use the prize money to treat her mother – who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s when she was in her 40s, and dementia more recently – to a holiday.
She later told the Daily Mail: “The show was recorded in May so at that time her condition wasn’t as severe as it is now, so she’s not fit to travel as much.
“We’re trying to do something closer to home so I can’t wait to just sit in front of her and say, ‘Mummy, what do you want to do, what can we do that you would just love?’. God only knows what she’s going to say, but I can’t wait!”
In an Instagram post shared on Tuesday morning, Rachel told her followers: “We are heartbroken to share the passing of our beautiful wee mummy and we kindly ask for privacy as our family grieves during this difficult time.”
Following the Traitors final, Rachel opened up to the BBC about the fact her mum had been following her journey on the show.
“She didn’t get all the twists and the turns but she’s enjoyed watching it,” Rachel explained. “She’s very proud.”
Rachel’s sister Joanne also previously told the BBC how Rachel’s intentions for her prize money during her stint on The Traitors were proof of her true character.
She said: “Rachel wanted to get in there and get that money for mummy and what she wanted it for meant that it meant so much more than just the money.”
On her first day in the castle, Rachel was selected to play as a Traitor by Claudia Winkleman, making it all the way to the final alongside fellow Traitor Stephen.
