Iran Ready for ‘Fair’ Talks With US, Rules Out Defence Negotiations
Iran’s foreign minister says Tehran is ready to return to nuclear negotiations with the United States but will not discuss its missile program.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that Tehran is prepared to return to nuclear talks with the United States, while firmly rejecting any negotiations over Iran’s missile program.
Speaking at a joint news conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Istanbul, Araghchi said Iran’s defensive capabilities and missile power are pillars of national security and not subject to compromise.
He said Iran would not accept imposed conditions or dictates, adding that past experiences have shown what he described as a lack of sincerity and goodwill from Washington in negotiations.
Araghchi noted that there are currently no plans for direct talks or meetings with US officials, despite Iran’s stated readiness for meaningful diplomacy.
He said Tehran remains open to diplomatic processes that are logical, fair, and based on equality, mutual respect, and consideration of Iran’s interests, while also stressing that Iran is prepared for war if necessary.
The United States has previously demanded that Iran fully dismantle its nuclear program, halt uranium enrichment, disband proxy forces, and accept restrictions on its missile capabilities.
Regional tensions have remained high, with reports, including from The New York Times, indicating that US President Donald Trump has reviewed a range of military options against Iran.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Ankara hopes the United States will avoid military action against Iran, stressing Turkey’s commitment to preventing conflict and promoting regional stability.
