Multiple Countries Seek to Purchase Pakistan’s JF-17 Fighter Jets
Pakistan says it has received requests from at least five countries in recent months seeking to purchase JF-17 fighter jets, signaling growing international interest in the aircraft.
According to a Bloomberg report published Tuesday, Pakistani military officials confirmed that Iraq, Bangladesh and Indonesia have expressed interest in acquiring the fighter jets.
Officials further noted that Saudi Arabia and Libya are also reviewing potential purchases, although no final agreements have yet been announced.
Interest in the JF-17 increased after Pakistan described the aircraft’s performance during clashes with India in May 2025 as successful, boosting its export appeal.
The JF-17 is a lightweight multirole combat aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China and produced domestically at Pakistan’s Aeronautical Complex.
Pakistan has been working for years to expand defense exports as part of efforts to strengthen its economy and reduce dependence on foreign military equipment suppliers. Defense manufacturing has become a strategic priority for Islamabad.
However, analysts say Pakistan’s current production capacity remains limited, which could slow deliveries if multiple export contracts are finalized simultaneously, placing pressure on the country’s defense industry infrastructure.
With rising regional defense spending and growing interest from several countries, future export deals for the JF-17 could enhance Pakistan’s defense industry profile, though production capacity and delivery timelines remain key challenges.
