The First Freeride World Championship Goes Down Tomorrow. Here's What You Need To Know

A competition date for the first ever Allianz FIS Freeride World Championships has been confirmed.

The competition will take place in Andorra on February 3, 2026, at 9 am CET (6 am EST). The event, which is sanctioned by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), will feature 65 of the world's best freeriders from 17 different countries. The championship event is a significant milestone for big mountain skiing and freeride as it marks the first time the sport will be represented by FIS.

How to Watch the Allianz FIS Freeride World Championships Andorra 2026

Fans can tune into the event live at www.freerideworldtour.com/live on February 3, 2026 at 9 am CET. Additional coverage of athlete stories, highlights, and updates will be available across FWT's social media platforms at @freerideworldtour.

Competition Format

The Freeride World Championships will largely follow the format of the rest of the FWT stops. Athletes will compete across one of four categories: Ski Men, Ski Women, Snowboard Men, and Snowboard Women. Each athlete will get one run in the competition.

Alongside the individual titles awarded in each category, the Freeride World Championships will also feature a Nations Ranking, introducing a new medal-based team competition.

The top five finishers in each category will receive points, with first place receiving a maximum of 100 points. Awarded points will contribute to a Medal Standing that will determine the overall top-performing nation.

Skiers to Watch at Andorra 2026

The Freeride World Championships will not only feature some of your favorite FWT skiers from the 2025/26 tour, but quite a few additional faces that are either new to the FWT or competed in previous years. Here's a few skiers we're particularly excited to watch that might also have a good shot at a podium.

Ski Women

Justine Dufour-Lapointe: It's no secret that Justine Dufour-Lapointe has dominated at the FWT over the last two seasons. She was crowned the overall winner at the 2025 FWT after four podium finishes throughout the season and won the first stop of the 2026 FWT season at Baqueria Beret. Dufour-Lapointe took a tumble after under rotating a backflip in Val Thorens on the last FWT stop, but even queens stumble occasionally, right? Dufour-Lapointe is representing Canada at the Freeride World Championships.

Manon Loschi: Manon Loschi is an absolute force to be reckoned with in women's freeride. Loschi competed on the FWT in 2024 and came away with three podiums throughout the season. Loschi was the first female to ever attempt a double backflip in a big mountain competition and also took first place at the inaugural NST Ski event in Alaska last winter. Outside competition, Loschi has stacked up quite the roster of epic film parts, further showing both her technical skill, style, and overall prowess in freeride. Loschi could certainly give Dufour LaPointe a run for her money in Andorra.

Agostina Vietti: In her first year on the FWT, Argentinian skier Agostina Vietti is already making waves. Vietti came in fourth place on the first stop of the season at Baqueria Beret and first place in Val Thorens. Her run in Val Thorens was powerful, technical, and creative and she's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Ski Men

Ben Richards: Kiwi skier Ben Richards has been dominating the FWT this year with wins in both Baqueria Beret and Val Thorens, not to mention absolutely mic-dropping his new Armada sponsorship on top of that podium. Richards came in fifth place overall on the 2025 FWT (and also executed one of the most memorable moments on the tour—anyone else remember that front flip?) and third place in 2024.

Kai Jones: Kai Jones has become a household name when it comes to freeride thanks to his already near-decade-long career at just 19 years old, and a laundry list of epic film parts. Raised with the Tetons as his playground, Jones is more comfortable in big mountain terrain than skiers twice his age and can lay down the tricks to prove it. Jones competed in the inaugural NST Ski last spring and put down an impressive run, despite some pretty spicy snow and avalanche conditions. Jones' skill and comfort in big terrain will make him one to keep an especially close eye on in the Freeride World Championships and someone that could give Richards a run for his money.

Marcus Goguen: There's no doubt that 2025 FWT champion Marcus Goguen is a force to be reckoned with. The Canadian skier is newly sporting a Red Bull helmet this season after spending several years establishing himself as one of the best freeriders around. However, despite his skill, Goguen hasn't had a ton of luck at the FWT this year, placing 6th at Baqueria Beret and 15th at Val Thorens. It'll be interesting to see if Goguen can turn it around for the Championships as he represents Canada.
