Chappell Roan Laughs Off Media Frenzy Around Her Daring Grammy Awards Outfit
Chappell Roan has spoken out after sparking plenty of conversation with her ensemble on this year’s Grammys red carpet.
On Sunday night, the Pink Pony Club singer turned heads as she made her way into the Grammy Awards sporting a sheer maroon number that appeared to be held in place attached to nipple piercings.
After making headlines with her daring attire, Chappell admitted in an Instagram post the following night that she was “giggling” at the response to her outfit, which she claimed she didn’t “even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit”.
“The look’s actually so awesome and weird,” she enthused. “I recommend just exercising your free will it’s really fun and silly.”
She added: “Thank you for having me Grammys and those who voted for me!!”

Chappell’s Grammys look – which made use of prosthetic nipple piercings – was a remake of a look first shown at a Mugler fashion show back in 1998.
The American singer-songwriter went into Sunday night’s Grammys ceremony with two nominations in the Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance categories for her hit The Subway, which topped the UK singles chart upon its release last year.
In the end, the former went to Billie Eilish’s Wildflower, while the latter was awarded to British star Lola Young.
A year on from her Best New Artist win, she also returned to the Grammys stage to present the same award to this year’s recipient, Olivia Dean.
Kendrick Lamar was the big winner at the 2026 Grammy Awards, triumphing in five of the 11 categories he was nominated in, including Record Of The Year for the SZA collaboration Luther.
Meanwhile, Bad Bunny picked up the night’s top honour, Album Of The Year, ahead of his performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday.
