On January 29, 2026, Variety published an article that detailed how Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castlehelped Japan break a major box office record. Thanks in large part to the anime film, Japanese movie theaters brought in JPY274.45 billion in 2025, which is the equivalent of $1.79 billion. That is the most that movies have ever made in Japan in a year.
Variety noted that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle contributed more to that total than any other film. That is the case because it brought in the equivalent of $255 million in Japan alone. The second-highest earner, Kokuho, earned the equivalent of $127 million, which is less than half of the Demon Slayer movie's take.

Even though Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle has already helped shatter records, its run isn't over yet. A January 21, 2026, ComicBook.com article reports that the movie is set to be re-released in theaters soon. Upon its theater comeback, the movie will be available to watch in an upgraded IMAX format so that fans can experience it in a whole new way.
Sadly, while fans may be happy to be able to see the franchise in IMAX, the news definitely isn't all good. Thanks to the re-release, it is believed that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle won't be released on streaming until later than it otherwise would have been.
