Spruce Kings Streak Hits Six
Carter Hesselgrave and Ryan Wachtel each scored twice as the Prince George Spruce Kings won their sixth straight game, defeating the Langley Rivermen 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Langley.
Hesselgrave scored his 15th of the season on a 4-on-3 power play in the opening frame, as Ozbej Rep and Marcus Lougheed picked up the assists before Hesselgrave ripped it over the glove of Rivermen goaltender Dylan Johnson.
Wachtel got in on the act just 25 seconds later on a stretch pass from Rep as he went five-hole on Johnson to make it 2-0.
Cooper Faughnan scored his first as a Spruce King as he popped the water bottle at 19:34 from River Arnason and Dracen Campbell as the Spruce Kings out shot the Rivermen 19-7 in the period.
After Cale Colwell beat Colin Reay to make it 3-1, Wachtel picked up his second of the night after a great forecheck by Lougheed, who stripped the Rivermen defense of the puck and got it to Wachtel to bury.
Prince George would score in the opening minute of the third period as Mason Loewen deflected a Trent LeDrew point shot past Johnson just 42 seconds in. Arnason picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.
The Spruce Kings finished off their night with a second power-play goal, also scored by Hesselgrave as he banked one in off Johnson. Lougheed and Tai Ushio picked up the assists.
Prince George moves into first place in the Coastal East Division with the victory, and will play the Coquitlam Express on Wednesday night in a game that will determine who’s heading into the weekend in that spot. The puck drops at 7:00 and is available at www.mixlr.com/sprucekings and on FloHockey
