UK Police Launch Probe Into Ex-Envoy Mandelson Over Epstein Links
UK police have launched an investigation into former ambassador Peter Mandelson over allegations he shared sensitive government information with convicted financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating a former senior minister for possible misconduct in public office but did not officially identify Mandelson in their announcement.
The investigation began shortly after Mandelson resigned from Britain’s House of Lords following renewed public scrutiny of his past contacts and communications with Epstein.
Recently released U.S. documents reportedly include emails showing Mandelson sharing information related to government financial discussions, including European economic bailout planning, with Epstein during previous years.
Financial records in the released documents also suggest money transfers connected to accounts linked to Mandelson or his partner, although he said he does not recall such transactions.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ordered an urgent review into Mandelson’s government contacts with Epstein, saying allegations of sharing sensitive information are deeply concerning and require clarification.
Newly released Epstein-related documents have increased scrutiny of several global political and business figures, prompting renewed investigations into relationships maintained after Epstein’s earlier criminal convictions.
Authorities say investigations will continue while officials review further evidence, as political pressure grows in Britain for full transparency regarding past dealings involving senior public officials.
