In my time covering them, I've seen cheaper options that barely offer insulation and high-end, expedition-level coats crossing the $1,000 barrier. One I found recently that falls somewhere in the middle is the Columbia Barlow Pass parka. It sits toward the lower end of the price spectrum while offering real winter protection and some smart tech. Now, during Columbia's Winter Sale, you can get one for under $200.

This well-built winter coat fits the bill for your average parka, but it comes in a shorter length for ease of access, and it is available in both big and tall sizes. We wouldn't wear this to climb Mt. Everest, but it absolutely will serve you as a daily driver in everyday wintery conditions.
