Why We Love This Deal
We’re just weeks away from the launch of the Asics Gel-Cumulus 28, which you can pre-order and expect to see on your doorstep near the end of the month. It's exciting news for Asics running shoe diehards who are eager to step into the latest tech. It's also exciting for anybody who's been waiting for a deal on the Gel-Cumulus 27, which is now on sale at all retailers, from Amazon to REI.
The Asics Gel-Cumulus 27 is now on sale for $110, which is over 20% off, essentially wherever this shoe is carried. Considering that less has changed from the 27 to the 28 than has changed in previous years, this is a great buy and will give a similar performance to the all-new 28. While Amazon has the most robust color selection, this deal is also available at REI and Asics itself.

What Shoppers Should Know
- Sizes Available: From 9 to 16
- Color Options: While it differs by retailer, Amazon is offering 38 colorways.
- Heel Drop: 8 mm
- Cushion Level: High
- Best For: Neutral running style, supporting underpronation due to high arches
Like all Asics shoes, the Gel-Cumulus fits a specific profile of intended wearer. In this case, the Gel-Cumulus targets those who have a neutral foot type or underpronate (i.e., run on the outside edges of the foot due to a high arch) and like a high cushion landing. Compare this to the Gel-Kayano, which favors those with lower arches and flat feet. Or, the Gel-Contend, which is also for underpronators but isn’t so heavily cushioned and, as a result, is significantly cheaper.
In recent years, the biggest change to the Gel-Cumulus line has been from the Gel-Cumulus 24 to the 25, when a transparent gel rubber band around the back of the shoe was removed. The technology is advancing in the next generation, but only slightly. With the Asics Gel-Cumulus 27, you’re getting the same 8 mm heel-to-toe drop as the Asics Gel-Cumulus 28, as well as the same outsole, gel tech, and mesh upper material. The main differences are just that the new generation weighs slightly less (just a few grams per shoe) and has slightly better cushioning.
At the end of the day, the Asics Gel-Cumulus 27 is a no-brainer shoe for the high-arched runner looking to pound pavement.

What Shoppers Are Saying
One runner, who praised the Gel-Cumulus 27 running shoes for their great cushioning and comfort, said, “Right out of the box they feel soft underfoot yet supportive, and the gel technology really helps absorb impact on longer runs.”
Another said, “If you're looking for a shoe with good cushioning that eases impact and holds up well, this Gel-Cumulus pair meets the mark.” They also said the shoe was good for a mixture of activities, including running, walking, and casual use.
The Asics Gel-Cumulus 27 is marked down by 20%, with the Gel-Cumulus 28 all but here. Grab your size soon—when iconic running shoes like this go on sale, sizes tend to run out faster than the folks wearing them.
