Savannah Guthrie Opts Out of 2026 Winter Olympics
Due to her mother's search, Savannah opted out of broadcasting from the 2026 Winter Olympics. When the Olympics' opening ceremony started on Friday, Feb. 6, the commentators for the program took a few minutes to send a heartfelt message to Guthrie. Mary Carillo replaced Guthrie as a co-host for the opening ceremony, and she's been appearing with host Terry Gannon.
"We're certainly without a very important and beloved member of our team tonight," Gannon said of Guthrie on the NBC Olympics broadcast. "She is dearly missed by everybody."
"She's covered so many Olympics, and she loves it," Carillo also. "Right now, of course, Savannah and her family are in unspeakable, unfathomable pain. We know that in the U.S., her extended family is legion. Savannah, my friend, it’s the same way here."
Gannon continued, "We send our love and prayers and all of our positive energy to Savannah tonight."
