Why We Love This Deal
It seems as though I’m on a monthly streak of finding deals on Keen waterproof hiking shoes. In December, it was the Targhee IV shoes during REI's Cyber Week sale, then in January, Keen listed the 450 Dirt Waterproof kicks at 40% off. This week, REI is showcasing an unbeatable discount on another low-profile waterproof hiker that can't be missed.
Keen’s Hightrail Waterproof Hiking Shoes are on sale for $101, a 32% discount from their normal price of $150. That’s the best price I’ve seen online for this shoe—it beats the prices at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Zappos, and even Keen directly. The Hightrail is available for $101 in one colorway, and nearly all sizes from 7 to 13 (and 8 wide to 12 wide) are still ready to pick up.

You can’t talk about Keen without mentioning the Targhee, arguably the brand’s most popular shoe. Compared to the Targhee IV, Keen’s latest version of the acclaimed model, the Hightrail is lighter (13.9 ounces compared to 18.7 ounces for the Targhee) and has a more laid-back design that works for casual wear as well as hiking.
Both models feature a Keen.Dry waterproof membrane to block water, and they have cushioned midsoles, but the Hightrail utilizes Katalyze foam, which offers a bouncy feel that helps you maintain faster paces. The Hightrail lacks the midsole shank found in the Targhee, so it’s not quite as supportive, but that does help the shoe save weight.
Up top, the Hightrail features a mesh upper with handsome suede overlays, and on the bottom, the full-coverage rubber outsole is studded with small lugs for a lockdown ride on the dirt—though the outsole will also feel comfortable on pavement, too.

What Shoppers Are Saying
The reviews are about on par with what I normally see users say about Keen—which is to say, they’re excellent. Shoppers praised the Hightrail’s “super comfortable” feel and “waterproof and extremely durable” design. These shoes have the grip and toughness for hiking, but shoppers also loved their stylish aesthetic and said the shoes are great for everyday wear, too.
One called them “perfect for both casual walks and serious hiking adventures.” With that in mind, the Hightrail is an ideal pick for active days where hikes, rides, and post-workout beers are all on the agenda.
Keen shoes are always top picks among REI shoppers, and several sizes of the Hightrail Waterproof are already out of stock. Grab your pair for over 30% off ASAP before your size sells out, too.
