Israel reviewing options for disarming Hamas by FORCE
Months ago, President Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire plan for the Gaza Strip, which has been run by the violence-prone Hamas terror organization for years, in the war it launched against Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, when its soldiers invaded and slaughtered hundreds and hundreds of innocent Israeli civilians.
It took hundreds more hostage, and they now, as part of Trump’s brokered deal, have been released, dead or alive.
But also part of the plan was for Gaza to be demilitarized, and new economic developments launched, and that would require the disarming of Hamas.
The terror group has refused to live up to that goal, and now a report from the Times of Israel reveals Israel’s military is working on plans “for a renewed offensives in the Gaza Strip to disarm the terror group by force.”
The demilitarization of the Strip was to include the disarmament of Hamas as well as the withdrawal of Israel Defense Forces troops.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump have insisted that the terror group must give up its weapons and Trump said Hamas made that promise as part of the ceasefire. Hamas now says that is not the case.
But Israel believes an unchecked Hamas will tighten its grip on Gaza Strip and rebuild its military power. It already is trying to restore its ranks of soldiers and supplies of weapons.
Officials already had warned that Hamas will not give up its ability to kill people willingly, so force may be required.
The report said, “Should hostilities renew, fighting is liable to be more intense and more widespread than previous rounds, as Israeli forces will no longer constrained by the presence of hostages on Gazan soil.”
Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, said just days ago Israel is “determined” that Hamas will disarm.
“After we have completed the objective of bringing back all of our hostages, we are determined to complete the disarmament of Hamas and the full demilitarization of Gaza,” Katz warned. “If Hamas does not disarm in accordance with the agreed framework, we will dismantle it and all of its capabilities.”
Previously IDF operations were limited by concern for injury to the hostages Hamas took. No longer.
One block to the plan could be Trump, who has made the ceasefire a part of his Board of Peace initiative and all of the Israeli hostages have, in fact, been returned, either dead or alive.
It is Hamas’ decision not to disarm that appears to be preventing further advances in the ceasefire plan, which is supposed to include the removal of IDF soldiers from the Strip as well as rebuilding projects.
Meanwhile, in parts of the Strip now occupied by the IDF, the military is demolishing the underground tunnels built by Hamas as part of its military infrastructure.
