Canadian Alberta’s independence movement is ramping up, as activists intensify their movement to collect 177,000 signatures in order to trigger an independence referendum.
Conservative Canadian separatists, who want the oil-rich province of Alberta to secede from wokest Canada, have admitted to several meetings with senior officials from the Donald J. Trump administration, trying to gain US support for the plan.
The Alberta independence petition has crossed an important line.

“The group, named the Alberta Prosperity Project, is hoping to hold a referendum on separating Alberta – sometimes known as the Texas of Canada – from the rest of the country this year.
In three secret meetings with officials from the U.S. State and Treasury departments, the group has discussed the mechanics of Alberta breaking with Canada, including plans to switch to US currency and even to create a new military force, according to reports in the Financial Times and on NBC.”

“’For those of us who are very much in support of Alberta becoming a sovereign country, it’s heartening to us at each of the three meetings that we’ve had with the U.S. administration to be informed that the entire U.S. administration is supportive of Alberta becoming a sovereign country’, Dennis Modry, a co-founder of the Alberta Prosperity Project, said according to NBC.
[…] ‘The U.S. is extremely enthusiastic about a free and independent Alberta’, the group’s legal counsel, Jeff Rath, told the paper after attending the meetings.”

In the meantime, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith denied having signed a petition for the independence referendum.
CBC reported:
“’I believe that a citizen-initiated process is meant for citizens, and so I’m watching all of the petition campaigns that are out there’, she said.
‘If any of them get the requisite number of signatures, then we’ll have to talk about prioritizing when we would have a referendum on them’.”
