All-natural dog bakery celebrates its grand opening in Encino with a ribbon-cutting ceremony

A new bakery shop in Encino on Ventura Boulevard isn’t for people, and it isn’t called “bakery,” because the baked goodies at The Barkery are solely for dogs. Shop owner Ari Leonard held a grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, showing off freshly baked dog treats.
“Dogs and baking both bring me so much joy,” Leonard said. “I wanted to combine those passions and make a community space that everyone can enjoy.”
Customers can expect to find cakes, cookies and cupcakes, all safely baked in house for dogs. Since their soft opening in January, The Barkery’s bestselling item has been its blueberry cookie dipped in yogurt.
Another popular treat is the peanut butter bone cake. “Pet parents love that it’s shaped like a bone and most dogs love peanut butter,” she said. “We see that different dogs have different tastes and needs. … It’s fun to watch dogs come in and try the treats, and it’s part of what makes the Barkery fun.”
They also specialize in fun seasonal treats, and are currently offering Mardi Gras-inspired cinnamon cookies, available until Fat Tuesday on Feb. 17.
“What makes us unique is that we use all natural ingredients and avoid sugar and salt,” Leonard said. “We try to keep our treats as healthy as possible for our dogs.”
Before Leonard opened The Barkery, she was a home baker with catering experience. “I have been passionate about baking for as long as I can remember,” she said. “Combining that love with my lifelong love of dogs felt like a natural next step.”
The Barkery has served over 1,000 loyal puppies. “We just want to make our pups feel as happy as they make us,” Leonard said.
