China to Grant Tariff-Free Imports to 53 African Nations from May 2026
Starting May, China will grant tariff-free access to goods from 53 African countries to boost trade, investment, and economic cooperation across regions.
State media reported that imports from 53 African countries maintaining diplomatic relations with Beijing will enter China without tariffs starting in May next year.
Previously, tariff exemptions were granted only to 33 least-developed African countries, but the new policy significantly broadens trade access for more economies.
According to a report by Reuters, the decision forms part of broader efforts to expand economic cooperation agreements between China and African partners.
Officials in Beijing say negotiations on additional trade and economic partnerships are continuing to deepen long-term commercial relations across participating countries.
The initiative aims to ease African exporters’ access to the Chinese market, reduce export costs, and strengthen bilateral commercial partnerships.
Analysts expect the move to increase trade flows and investment exchanges, supporting economic growth opportunities between China and African economies.
The tariff exemption signals China’s expanding economic engagement strategy, with trade cooperation expected to grow further as new agreements and partnerships are implemented.
