NASA Reveals Heart-Shaped Nebula Image for Valentine’s Day
NASA released a striking heart-shaped nebula image on Valentine’s Day, revealing stellar nurseries forming within glowing gas and cosmic dust clouds nearby.
The newly released image shows the Cocoon Nebula, a star-forming region within the Milky Way where young stars emerge from dense clouds of gas and dust.
Data captured by Chandra X-ray Observatory reveal clusters of energetic newborn stars shining through surrounding clouds at the stellar nursery.
NASA explained that these young stars emit strong X-ray radiation, helping astronomers study how stars develop within such dense cosmic environments.
The glow seen in the nebula results from a combination of light emitted by young stars and reflections from nearby dust clouds surrounding them.
To produce the final image, scientists combined X-ray data with visible-light photographs and infrared observations gathered by WISE Space Telescope.
The Cocoon Nebula stretches roughly 15 light-years across and lies about 2,650 light-years away from Earth, making it an active stellar birth region.
NASA released the image on February 14, aligning the heart-shaped cosmic structure with global Valentine’s Day celebrations and public interest in space discoveries.
