Update: High surf advisory in place for Los Angeles County beaches from Monday to Thursday
Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches are the focus of an updated high surf advisory released at 2:12 p.m. on Saturday by the National Weather Service. The advisory is valid from Monday 10 a.m. until Thursday Feb. 19, at 6 p.m.
“Large breaking waves 7 to 10 feet with local sets up to 15 feet possible on Wednesday and dangerous rip currents,” according to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. “Minor coastal flooding possible around mid-morning and late-evening times of high tide on Tuesday and Wednesday.”
“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
