US Forces Stop Iran-Linked Sanctioned Tanker Carrying Venezuelan Oil in Indian Ocean
US forces stopped a sanctioned tanker in the Indian Ocean, carrying Venezuelan oil, reinforcing maritime enforcement against Iran-linked shipping networks globally.
The United States Department of Defense announced it halted a tanker linked to sanctions violations after tracking its movements across multiple maritime regions.
According to a Pentagon statement posted on X, the vessel sailing under the Panama flag attempted to bypass US maritime sanctions enforcement.
US forces reportedly monitored the ship from the Caribbean Sea until intercepting and stopping it during operations conducted in international waters.
Shipping monitors at TankerTrackers said the tanker was transporting nearly 1.9 million barrels of oil originating from Venezuela.
The tanker was also listed under sanctions connected to Iran, reflecting Washington’s efforts to restrict oil shipments linked to sanctioned entities.
A similar seizure occurred earlier under policies introduced during President Donald Trump’s administration aimed at limiting sanctioned oil transport worldwide.
US authorities stressed they will continue maritime enforcement operations to prevent sanctioned networks from freely operating across global shipping routes and energy markets.
