Protecting Children from Polio is a Human Duty, Says Polio-Free Afghanistan
Health officials warn protecting children from polio through vaccination remains a religious and humanitarian duty as cases persist in vulnerable Afghan communities.
The organization Polio-Free Afghanistan stressed that protecting children from polio is both a religious obligation and a humanitarian responsibility for families.
In a statement released Tuesday, the group warned that polio permanently paralyzes children and can affect them for life if vaccination campaigns are ignored.
The message noted that most countries, including Islamic nations, eliminated polio through vaccination, while Afghanistan and Pakistan continue struggling against the virus.
Reports indicate some families in certain regions still refuse vaccines due to religious misconceptions and lack of awareness, leaving many children exposed to infection risks.
The World Health Organization earlier confirmed two positive polio cases in 2025 in Badghis and Helmand provinces, renewing concerns about virus circulation.
Health experts warn that continued cooperation, accurate public awareness, and community participation are essential to fully eliminate polio and protect future generations of children.
