New 'Star Wars' Trailer Smartly Shows Us Pedro Pascal's Face Right Away
As one of the biggest working actors today, Pedro Pascal can be seen in tons of movies and TV shows. One exception? The Mandalorian, because despite playing the titular character of the Star Wars series, Pascal's face is almost never seen due to Mando almost always wearing a helmet. Thankfully, the new trailer for the big screen movie The Mandalorian and Grogu revealed that audiences will indeed get to see Pascal take off the helmet—something that wasn't necessarily a given.
The new trailer for the movie, which hits theaters on May 22, hit the web on Tuesday. Unlike the recent Super Bowl commercial, which was a parody of beer ads rather than a true preview of the film, this trailer showcases a lot of footage. Pascal's Din Djarin (a.k.a Mando) and Grogu (a.k.a. Baby Yoda) are off on a bounty hunting mission, seemingly at the behest of a new character played by Sigourney Weaver. He's after war criminals and gangsters—including Hutts, the slug-like alien species that Jabba belonged to.
At one point in the trailer, Mando appears to have been taken captive before some Hutts who promise that he "will suffer" and it will be Grogu's turn to suffer after he's done. Mando is unmasked by his captor, revealing Pascal's face. Another scene, which has an unmasked Mando facing off against some kind of big white space leech, follows. (It's possible that this scene is a continuation of this first one—we know from experience that Hutts like to have their prisoners fight grotesque monsters.)
Pedro Pascal's Face Has Been Mostly MIA From the Show
For almost all of The Mandalorian, Pascal's character wears a helmet and refuses to show his face because that is "the way" for his branch of honor-obsessed people. However, in a few cases where it could not be avoided, he does show his face if that's what's required to keep Grogu—the little alien of Yoda's species who is his surrogate son—safe.
This happens infrequently, though. He does it towards the end of season one, twice in season two, and zero times in season three. This has led many to believe—not entirely incorrectly—that it's not really Pascal in that suit of Mandalorian armor. He's doing the voiceover, yes, but frequently stunt or body doubles like Brendan Wayne or Lateef Crowder are the ones actually in costume on the set.
Given that Pascal is such a hot star these days, having had leading roles in The Last of Us, Fantastic Four: First Steps, Gladiator II, and Materialists, you'd certainly hope to get at least a peek at his visage during this blockbuster movie. The trailer confirms that we will indeed be getting a little bit of face time in that galaxy far, far away.
Also, Martin Scorsese might be in it?
