i.safe Mobile launches IS380.1 for seamless digital transformation
i.safe Mobile has developed the IS380.1, a 4G Radio device that runs on the i.safe Mobile operating system ‘IS-OS 16’ and is certified for Zone 1/21 hazardous industrial areas
The device has been designed to bridge the gap between conventional radio communication and modern mobile networks. Companies in logistics, rail, transport, port operations, manufacturing and construction could benefit from this transitional solution, as well as emergency services and public safety/defence organisations.
Users do not have to switch to new devices or workflows. The IS380.1 provides the ergonomics of radio devices, and with compatible applications and network infrastructure, the device can unlock advanced capabilities such as Push-to-talk over Cellular and Mission Critical Push-to-talk.
Digital Transformation
The IS380.1 serves as a link between conventional Private Mobile Radio (PMR) systems and modern cellular-based Push-to-talk solutions. The device combines the look, feel, and operation of traditional two-way radios with the addition of mobile networks, enabling organisations to embrace digital network transformation without disrupting established workflows. Extensive user retraining is unnecessary, as field workers can continue to use the same intuitive radio-style interface they have used for years and benefit from the worldwide coverage and advanced features of 4G networks.
Javier Esparza, sales manager, critical communication at i.safe Mobile, said, "We've removed the barrier to adoption by maintaining the familiar radio design and operation that users know and trust. The IS380.1 simply extends their existing capabilities beyond the limitations of conventional radio infrastructure. It's the natural first step towards comprehensive digitalisation in professional communications."
Integration
The IS380.1 is engineered to integrate into existing communication ecosystems. The device runs on the i.safe Mobile operating system, ISM-OS 16, and supports 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. The touchscreen-capable IS380.1 features two-way radio design elements.
Other features include: a large, tactile PTT key on the side for natural thumb operation, a programmable rotary switch for quick channel selection or volume adjustment, and an emergency SOS button next to the external antenna.
The device’s housing replicates the stable form factor of conventional two-way radios, allowing secure placement on work surfaces. The front-facing amplified loudspeaker provides enhanced audio clarity, and noise-cancellation technology further advances performance.
The 13-pin ISM interface maintains compatibility with professional audio accessories, including the IS-RSMG2.1 remote speaker microphone, IS-HS1.1 headset, and IS-HDHS1x.1 heavy-duty headset. Existing accessory investments remain fully functional and offer multiple charging options, including a multi-charger and a desktop charger, which complete the available accessory package.
Unified Communication
The IS380.1 integrates with unified communication solutions via third-party RoIP gateways, enabling organisations to connect their existing VHF/UHF radio networks to cellular Push-to-talk applications.
Field workers using the IS390.1 can communicate with colleagues using conventional two-way radios and can benefit from the extended range and advanced features of cellular connectivity. This dual capability allows organisations to gradually modernise their communication infrastructure, as existing radio equipment doesn’t become obsolete and previous investments remain protected while enabling a phased approach to digitalisation.
The IS380.1 supports traditional telephony and Push-to-talk communication modes, offering versatility for diverse operational requirements. The device is optimised for professional deployments and comes pre-installed with the system-integrated i.safe Mobile App World. This platform enables the use of Push-to-talk and Lone Worker Protection applications and provides secure access to tested and verified applications.
Purpose-Built
The IS380.1 has been developed to meet the requirements of harsh industrial environments. The device is certified to IP68 standards for dust and water ingress protection, and MIL-STD 810H certification for shock, vibration, and extreme temperature performance.
The IS380.1 provides the same reliability that professionals expect from traditional radio equipment. The removable battery design facilitates continuous operational readiness through quick battery swaps.
The IS380.1 is suitable for companies across sectors such as logistics and warehousing, rail transport and infrastructure, major ports and harbours, manufacturing and production facilities, and construction sites, as well as emergency services, the blue-light sector, defence, and public safety organisations.
These industries have traditionally relied on TETRA or conventional PMR radio networks, which are reliable but require significant infrastructure investment. The IS380.1 can provide a cost-effective pathway to expand communication capabilities. The device supports international frequency bands, making it suitable for global deployment, and local certifications are available according to specific business requirements.
