How Loon Mountain Will Supply the Snow for Red Bull Heavy Metal Boston
In February 2025, Red Bull hosted its Heavy Metal rail jam at Boston’s City Hall Plaza. It was projected that 3,000 spectators would turn out for the event. Instead, 20,000 came out, and set a new record for the most people to watch a live snowboarding event.
So all the parties involved said, "Maybe we should run it back." And the folks at Loon Mountain Resort are helping in the biggest way possible: by supplying the snow and building the features.
The Loon Parks Crew will trek 150 tons of snow from about 2 hours away up Interstate 93 and bring it to the middle of downtown Boston. The park crew will help build features in three unique zones for some of the most progressive street and rail riding you’ve ever seen in your life. And some of the best street riders in the world will be on hand to hit the course.

Zeb Powell, of course, is headlining the entire thing. He will play host, just like he did last year. Previous Heavy Metal winner Sam Anderson will be on hand to compete, as well as Benny Milam and LJ Henriquez. Connecticut’s own Erin Alexander is back for year two, and Jess Perlmutter will be competing fresh off this little-known contest called the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina.
Perlmutter won last year’s contest at the age of 15. That set off a domino effect that led to her winning two additional contests to finish the year and be named to the U.S. team. Milam won for the men.
The contest kicks off on February 21, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. in City Hall Plaza. That’s right in the heart of downtown Boston, so if you’re going to be there, know that parking will be close to impossible. The event is free to attend. The event will wrap up around 5:30 p.m.
