Speed Skater Leaves Trail of Blood in Ice After Nasty Fall at Olympics
Short-track speedskater Kamila Sellier of Poland was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out of the Milano Ice Skating Arena on Friday night after a competitor's blade sliced her above her left eye during the women's 1,500 meters during a crash.
Sellier went down with American skater Kristen Santos-Griswold after she tried an illegal lane pass that contributed to the accident. Santos-Griswold was penalized. Sellier is getting stitches.
Arian Fontana, a 15-time Olympic medalist of Italy, also fell. Her skinsuit was cut, and she received help from a healthcare provider on her hip while the race was paused.
