Sydney Sweeney, Barbie Ferreira, and More ‘Euphoria’ Stars Mourn Eric Dane
Eric Dane'sEuphoria co-stars have paid tribute to the late actor, following his death from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) at the age of 53.
The actor died on Thursday, February 19. In a statement to People, Dane's family said: “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” the statement read. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight,” the statement continued. “He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Following his departure from Grey's Anatomy, the actor has starred as Cal Jacobs, father of Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), on the HBO teen drama series. Season 3 of the show is set to premiere on April 12th. Previously, it was confirmed that Dane would return for the series, and he returned to set just four days after he publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis. Cal is billed as a main character for the upcoming final season of the show.

Javon Walton, who plays Ashtray on the show, shared a message on Instagram story following Eric's passing. "Words cannot explain how amazing a man Eric Dane is. You will be missed by many. Such a phenomenal guy to work with," he wrote. "I wish his family nothing but the absolute best. Rest easy brother," he added, with a heart emoji.
Sam Levinson, the creator and showrunner of the series, donated $27,000 to Dane's GoFundMe page to help cover expenses and support his two daughters. "Working with him was an honor. Being his friend was a gift," Levinson said in a statement shared with USA TODAY. "Eric's family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing."

Sydney Sweeney, who portrays Cassie Howard, the future daughter-in-law of Dane's character, also paid homage on Instagram story, sharing an image of the pair. Forever will love you," she said, accompanied by a heart emoji.
Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, similarly took to Instagram Stories to share a clip from Dane’s “Famous Last Words” interview, which was recorded as a Netflix special to be released posthumously. Ferreira included a white heart emoji on the story, giving her former co-star the last word.

Storm Reid, who plays Gia Bennett, the younger sister of Rue Bennett (Zendaya) also shared a tribute to the actor. "While we may have never shared the screen together, every time I saw Mr. Eric, he was kind and full of warmth," she posted on Instagram. "I. pray he is always remembered that way. Keeping his family and daughters in my prayers."
Dane is sadly not the first actor from Euphoria to have died during production. Angus Cloud, who portrayed Fezco “Fez” O’Neill, died from an accidental drug overdose in 2023, at the age of 25.
A spokesperson for HBO provided a statement Page Six on behalf of the network, writing, “We are deeply saddened by the news of Eric Dane’s passing. He was incredibly talented and HBO was fortunate to have worked with him on three seasons of ‘Euphoria.’ Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”
