Two Afghan Women Killed as Pakistani Forces Open Fire Near Iran Border
Pakistani authorities said security forces opened fire on a vehicle Monday in the Prom area of southwestern Balochistan province after it failed to stop at a checkpoint near the Iranian border.
The shooting resulted in the deaths of two Afghan women and left three other individuals injured, according to official statements.
Officials stated that the vehicle was carrying Afghan nationals who had allegedly entered Pakistan illegally and were attempting to travel onward toward the Iranian border.
Security forces reportedly fired after the driver ignored orders to stop, prompting what authorities described as a necessary response under border enforcement protocols.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper, the bodies of the deceased and the injured individuals were transferred to a nearby hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Security personnel also detained other Afghan nationals who were present in the vehicle following the incident, the report said.
The incident underscores ongoing tensions surrounding cross-border migration and security operations in Pakistan’s southwestern border regions near Iran.
Authorities have not yet provided further details regarding the condition of the injured or the legal proceedings facing those detained after the shooting.
