Pakistani Foreign Ministry Warns of Decisive Response to Further Provocations
Pakistan says Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq targeted terrorist threats, warning of decisive action if cross-border provocations continue.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi said the military campaign known as “Ghazab-ul-Haq” was launched in response to what he described as provocations originating from Afghan territory.
Andrabi stated that the operation inflicted heavy losses on what he called terrorist groups and was conducted under Pakistan’s right to self-defense to safeguard national and regional security. He warned that any further provocations would trigger a firm response.
Taliban officials, however, have rejected Pakistan’s accusations, saying recent clashes were the result of cross-border aggression. They claim their actions were defensive and aimed at protecting Afghan territory.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has previously alleged that Taliban forces killed dozens of Pakistani soldiers and captured several border posts, accusations that Islamabad has not confirmed.
Andrabi added that Pakistan seeks peace and stability in the region and will continue diplomatic efforts to address security concerns, while urging Afghan authorities to act against groups it labels as militant threats.
He also emphasized that under the United Nations Charter, Pakistan reserves the right to take appropriate measures in self-defense.
Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have intensified following a series of airstrikes, drone attacks, and cross-border clashes in recent days. Both sides accuse each other of harboring or supporting militant elements.
Regional observers warn that continued military exchanges and hardened rhetoric could further destabilize the border region unless diplomatic channels succeed in easing hostilities.
