Kevin O'Leary Stunned The Internet With $20 Million Necklace
Canadian entrepreneur Kevin O'Leary arrived at the Screen Actors' Guild Awards on Sunday, March 1, wearing a $20 million necklace made from an autographed basketball card.
The card features signatures from NBA legends Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, two of the sport's biggest stars. O'Leary confessed that he'd embellished the necklace with Tiffany diamonds to increase its value to a round $20 million.
Kevin O'Leary's Necklace Was The Star of The SAG Awards' Red Carpet
Speaking with USA Today, O'Leary explained the meaning behind his unique fashion choice: "We bought this card together with two other investers in August for $12.93 million, and then I talked to Tiffany about it saying 'The card is now worth $19.2 [million], if we're gonna walk the red carpet tonight and bring Kobe back to L.A., let's make it really special.'"
O'Leary explained exactly what makes his necklace so valuable: "101 carats of Tiffany diamonds, inside 10 carats of Tiffany rubies, inside 2.2 pounds of Tiffany white gold, [with] two incredible watches."
"I'm proud to wear this $20 million piece of art. It's amazing; I look so good they should put a tarrif on me," the businessman joked. O'Leary was attending the SAG Awards to celebrate Marty Supreme, in which he plays a wealthy entreprenuer named Milton Rockwell.
Timothee Chalamet and Odessa A'Zion were both nominated for their performances in Marty Supreme, though neither took home an award. Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for Sinners, while Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.
The internet has reacted strongly to O'Leary's bold fashion statement, with many fans criticizing the businessman's decision to flaunt such an unnecessary symbol of wealth.
"These rich people make me not even wanna collect cards," one X user wrote. Another said: "Nothing against the guy but flaunting wealth like that is never sexy and more on the cheap side."
