Cesar Awards Breaks Silence on Jim Carrey Clone Rumor With Final Message
Jim Carrey's appearance at the Cesar Awards late last month sparked a wild debate on social media with some suggesting he was cloned or an impersonator accepted the honorary Cesar for him.
Drag performer and makeup artist Alexis Stone fanned the flames with a post on social media appearing to take credit for showing up as the beloved actor. "Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris," the caption of a post on Instagram read with photos showing a mask, wig, dentures and set of makeup.
Cesar Awards Breaks Silence on Jim Carrey's Appearance
Carrey's rare public outing came on Feb. 26 when he accepted the honorary Cesar, succeeding Julia Roberts. While fans questioned whether it was actually the iconic actor, Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the Cesar Awards, told Variety that unequivocally, it was Carrey.
“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words,” Caulier said.

Caulier revealed Carrey attended with his partner, daughter, grandson and 12 close family members and friends while being accompanied by his longtime publicist.
"His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again," he added. "For me, it’s a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance."
Caulier seems certain Carrey attended the event, but skeptics remain on social media. Those looking for answers from Carrey might have to keep looking as the beloved actor doesn't have a social media account.
