Jim Carrey's Rep Responds to Conspiracy Theories About Actor's Appearance
Jim Carrey's recent appearance at the 51st César Film Awards in France caused a stir online, with many commenting on the longtime actor's "unrecognizable" look.
Carrey, 64, who was last seen in public back in November, looked noticeably different than he has in the past, which spawned a host of conspiracy theories, including ones claiming it was actually a body double standing in his place.
On Monday, Carrey's rep downplayed all of the chatter.
Theories shot down
In a brief statement to PEOPLE, the unnamed rep dismissed any conspiracies outright.
"Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award," the statement reads.
Carrey attended the Césars, the French equivalent of the Oscars, with his daughter Jane, grandson Jackson and partner Min Ah. He gave almost his entire acceptance speech in French.
César Awards also deny rumors
Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the César Awards, provided his own statement to Variety on the internet whispers about Carrey's appearance, calling it a "non-issue."
“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation," Caulier said. "Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words. He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.”
“For me, it’s a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance," Caulier said of the "Truman Show" star.
Prior to last week, Carrey was last seen inducting Soundgarden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in November 2025.
