Tottenham contact PGMOL chief after referee controversies vs Arsenal and Fulham
Tottenham Hotspur have now contacted the PGMOL over refereeing decisions that have gone against them in recent weeks.
It has been a difficult Premier League campaign for Tottenham Hotspur thus far, with the club right in the thick of a relegation scrap.
The Lilywhites remain winless in 2026 and have managed just two wins in their last 19 outings, yet somehow remain two places above and four points clear of the dreaded dotted line.
Spurs need victories and, in their last two games, they have shown signs of fight, but ultimately fell short against both Arsenal and Fulham.
While they were well beaten, there is no denying that those matches were not without controversy, with refereeing decisions failing to go Tottenham’s way.
Tottenham write to PGMOL chief Howard Webb over refereeing decisions
In the clash with Arsenal, Randal Kolo Muani thought he had restored parity at 2-2, only for his effort to be chalked off. Officials ruled that the France international had nudged Gabriel Magalhaes in the back just before finishing past David Raya.
A comparable moment unfolded in the defeat to Fulham. Raul Jimenez seemed to apply a shove to Spurs centre-half Radu Dragusin during an aerial duel in the build-up to Wilson’s goal. However, on that occasion, the strike stood, with the contact judged insufficient to warrant a foul.
With those inconsistencies in mind, BBC Sport reports that Tottenham have written to Professional Game Match Officials Limited chief Howard Webb to raise concerns over key refereeing decisions.
It is understood Spurs have included further examples from this season where similar situations have led to differing outcomes, including Nick Woltemade’s goal against Arsenal in September, despite a perceived push on Gabriel in the build-up. PGMOL have so far refused to comment.
Spurs cannot afford fine margins to go against them
With margins in the English top flight notoriously tight, the smallest details can prove costly over the course of a season.
Tottenham have repeatedly found themselves on the wrong side of such calls and, given their precarious position, they cannot afford further setbacks if they are to preserve their Premier League status.
Attention now turns to Crystal Palace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Spurs will hope the focus remains on football rather than controversy.
