Repatriation of Cypriots in UAE expected to begin on Wednesday
Repatriation flights for Cypriots who found themselves in the United Arab Emirates upon the outbreak of a conflict in the region are to begin on Wednesday, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said on Tuesday evening.
“Charter flights have been launched for their repatriation. The necessary arrangements have been completed and the relevant procedures are in progress. Flights are scheduled to begin tomorrow,” he said, with that schedule subject to regional security conditions.
The Cyprus Mail understands that a little over 2,000 Cypriot nationals in the UAE registered their presence through the government’s Connect2CY online platform in the aftermath of the outbreak of the conflict.
However, it is believed that the actual number of Cypriot nationals in the country may be as high as 6,000.
