Suspected Peeping Tom sought by Oakland police
OAKLAND — A suspected Peeping Tom linked to numerous incidents primarily in the Maxwell Park area of East Oakland is being sought by police, authorities said Tuesday.
In an effort to identify and arrest the suspect, police on Tuesday released video surveillance images of him.
Police said in a news release that since Dec. 13 six confirmed reports have been received from residents, saying the man has entered the yards of occupied homes usually between 8 and 10 p.m., peered into windows and engaged in inappropriate behavior.
The most recent incident was Sunday, authorities said.
The man only stays in the yards a few minutes and is able to flee before police can respond. It is believed he is on foot as no vehicles that might be associated to him have been seen.
Police believe the man might be responsible for similar incidents dating back to March 2025.
He is described as balding, possibly White or Latino, in his 40s or 50s. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, white hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
Police commanders have deployed additional officers in the impacted areas to enhance public safety and deter further incidents, the release says.
Police are encouraging anyone who may have been a victim or who has information about these incidents to contact the department’s Special Victims Unit at 510- 238-3641.
Police are also asking community members “to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activity, and share any relevant surveillance footage with investigators,” the release says.
