Play areas at Swanley Recreation Ground and Elephant Park in Swanley to undergo major upgrades
Two parks in Kent are set for a £350,000 investment in play equipment.
Swanley Recreation Ground and Elephant Park in Swanley will both be getting new facilities and themed areas.
A playground with a space theme for children up to 12 years old will be installed at Swanley Recreation Ground.
It will be built on the field next to Oaks Surgery, so the main footpath running through the rec will lead directly to it.
The larger play equipment for children aged 12 and over that is already in place will be retained.
The two play areas will be alongside the skate park, which was built in 2022, as well as newly resurfaced all-weather courts and existing sports pitches.
Elephant Park, off St George’s Road, will also undergo a significant upgrade, with plans for a safari-themed play area.
It will have more than 40 individual play features for children up to the age of 14.
Work on both sites is expected to be finished by May. Access will be affected while the improvements are carried out.
In addition to these projects, Swanley Town Council (STC) has secured grant funding for improvements to play areas in Cherry Avenue and Hilda May, which are owned by Sevenoaks council.
In total, £350,000 will be invested in Swanley’s play areas.
CEO of STC Ryan Hayman said: “We are absolutely delighted to be delivering two fantastically themed playgrounds for Swanley this year.
“This £350,000 investment demonstrates our continued commitment to providing high quality, accessible facilities for families.
“By creating a new area at Swanley Recreation Ground and introducing exciting new themed equipment at both sites, we are creating spaces that will inspire active, imaginative play for years to come.”
The Mayor of Swanley, Cllr Keith Mitchell, added: “These upgraded playgrounds are fantastic news for our community.
“Play areas are at the heart of family life in Swanley, and it is wonderful to see such significant investment in our parks.
“I look forward to seeing children enjoying the new facilities and making lasting memories in these vibrant, welcoming spaces and I thank the officers involved in making this happen.”
