‘Desperate’: Letitia James orders New York hospital to resume program that can mutilate children
Letitia James, New York’s attorney general who failed in her years-long demand that her government take billions of dollars away from President Donald Trump and his business, now has staged another fight with Trump by ordering a New York hospital to resume a program that can mutilate children in defiance of presidential orders.
“Effectively, James is ordering the hospital to defy the federal government. However, the hospital, not James or the state, would bear the financial and regulatory consequences,” explained constitutional expert Jonathan Turley in a column. “While James does not state how she will penalize the hospital, the letter is likely sufficient to challenge the move. The question is whether the political costs for the NYU hospital are prohibitive. There is also the question of whether the HHS has standing or interest in challenging the move as a direct threat to federal authority.”
James long has used her office and political influence to assault Trump. She campaigned on the promise that she would “get” him, and eventually brought a court case alleging in his business he mis-valued his properties to get loans.
Despite overwhelming evidence, including from lenders who testified they were happy with their dealings with Trump and would like more, an anti-Trump judge claimed there were billions of dollars in damage and Trump had to pay.
An appeals court quickly threw out that determination for simply being banned by the U.S. Constitution.
Ironically, James herself later was indicted on fraud charges.
Int the current fight, she again pits herself and her orders against those of a president. And in doing so she puts New York University Langone hospital in Manhattan in an untenable position.

“The problem with a federal challenge is that nothing in the New York threat prevents the federal government from carrying out its intent to cut off funding. Hospitals would have to choose between penalties in New York or loss of funding in Washington. Nevertheless, New York’s move is a direct attack on the enforcement of federal policy by state hospitals,” Turley explained.
James’ order insists the hospital resume offering gender-transition treatment, a program that was discontinued after the Trump administration said it would cut off federal Medicaid and Medicare funding for hospitals that continued those chemical and surgical treatments that can leave children sterile and mutilated for life.
Trump’s order was in “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation.”
Trump’s agenda has scientific support, as multiple European nations now have halted some procedures after studies suggested the risks were too high.
“England’s National Health Service 2024 report on the subject, known as the Cass Report, found concerning evidence of harm for minors and inconclusive benefits,” Turley cited.
James is claiming the ending of the program violates New York’s anti-discrimination law by “jeopardizing access to medically necessary healthcare for some of the most vulnerable New Yorkers.”
James is promising “further action” should the hospital not follow through on her orders to defy President Trump.
Langone had confirmed it was ending some “gender-affirming” procedures because of the “current regulatory environment” and the fact a medical director was leaving.
“We are committed to helping patients in our care manage this change,” the hospital said then.
Other hospitals across the country also have stopped “treatments” for those pursuing the transgender ideologies.
Those promoting transgender beliefs, like Scott Leibowitz of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, had criticized Trump’s order, but following the science, no one can change from male to female or vice versa, as being male or female is embedded in the human body down to the DNA level and does not change.
