Oev launches new committee to boost workforce skills in Cyprus

The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (Oev) has established a new committee on education, training and the attraction of young talent as part of its broader strategy to strengthen workforce skills and support the competitiveness of Cypriot businesses.

The federation said that the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to reinforce the capabilities of the country’s human capital and to ensure that companies in Cyprus remain competitive in a rapidly evolving economic environment.

According to the announcement, the committee is composed of representatives from businesses and organisations operating in key sectors of the economy.

The body’s mission is to contribute to the development of modern policies and practices in education, training and the attraction of new talent that respond to labour market needs and align with European developments in the field of skills.

The committee recently held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Yangos Hadjiyiannis.

During the meeting, the main pillars of the committee’s work were presented and discussed.

These priorities include highlighting education and training as a central pillar for strengthening business competitiveness.

The committee will also focus on improving the attractiveness of vocational education and training.

Another key objective is the promotion of lifelong learning and the continuous upgrading of skills among the workforce.

In addition, the committee aims to strengthen the connection between businesses and educational institutions.

Efforts will also be directed towards developing initiatives that support the attraction and retention of young talent within the Cypriot labour market.

The federation reaffirmed its commitment to acting as a strategic partner in shaping policies that strengthen the country’s human capital.

It added that these efforts contribute to the development of a competitive and sustainable productive model for Cyprus.
