No USA this summer: Man United plotting unique five-city European pre-season tour
Manchester United have made a significant decision regarding their preparations for the 2026-27 season.
For the past three years, the Red Devils have travelled to the United States as part of their lucrative pre-season tours.
However, that routine is set to change this summer due to the unique scheduling challenges created by the upcoming World Cup.
According to The Sun, United are lining up friendlies in five different European cities during their pre-season tour.
The club have settled on the concept of individual European games as they want to stay closer to home, with the World Cup taking place across the Atlantic this summer.
The Manchester outfit are currently in discussions to play games in Gothenburg, Warsaw, Oslo, Dublin and Helsinki.
While there will be almost a month between the World Cup final and the opening weekend of the Premier League season, another long trip to the United States could prove exhausting for players involved in the tournament.
It seems a very sensible and player-friendly move that the Red Devils want to spend less time travelling and instead look for opportunities in Europe.
Considering that United have a global fanbase, this move will also give supporters in these five cities the chance to see their team play live.
The upcoming summer transfer window and preparations for the new campaign are expected to look very different from the usual routine.
Many players could return mentally and physically drained after competing in the World Cup.
Those involved in the tournament are likely to be granted additional rest to ensure they return refreshed for the new season.
However, INEOS will not have any time to rest. They must decide whether to appoint a new manager or place their full faith in Michael Carrick by handing him the role on a permanent basis.
