Explosion hits entrance to US embassy in Oslo, police say
A loud blast erupted at the US embassy in Oslo on Sunday morning, causing damage to the entrance.
An explosion struck the embassy compound in the west of Norway’s capital at around 1am local time (midnight in the UK).
Eyewitnesses said the blast ‘shook the house’ and created a ‘cloud of smoke’.
A string of US diplomatic missions have been targeted by the Iranian regime across the Gulf after the outbreak of war in the Middle East.
It is not known whether the blast in Oslo is linked in any way to the US war with Iran.
Norwegian police said the explosion caused minor damage but no injuries.
Officers are still searching for the perpetrators and did not find any other explosive devices in the area.
Sebastian Toerstad, a high school student who drove past the embassy at the time of the blast, said: ‘There was a very thick layer of smoke on the street.
‘There was some damage to the entrance.’
Oslo police also confirmed to public broadcaster NRK that the blast occurred at the entry to the compound’s consular section.
Local Anna Gilbo told CNN: ‘I was watching TV and hear a loud bang while the whole house shook. There was a search going on for a while after the explosion which worried my friends and I, but it feels like the threat is over.’
Officers in white overalls were later seen working at the site.
Oslo Police said in a separate statement: ‘The police are in a dialogue with the embassy and there are no reports of any injured persons.’
