Microsoft kills Copilot’s ‘more human’ conversational mode

Microsoft has decided to discontinue the Real Talk feature in Copilot, just a few months after it launched, reports Windows Latest. All existing conversations with the tool have now been archived and it’s no longer possible to start new ones.

Real Talk differed from the regular Copilot AI in that it had a more personal and human conversational style. The feature could involve its memories about you, think more rationally about questions, and sometimes challenge your opinions instead of blindly confirming them.

Real Talk also had different levels of depth in conversations that controlled how emotional and analytical its responses were.

According to Microsoft, Real Talk was always intended as an experiment. The company now says that the experience from the test will instead be used to develop Copilot more broadly.

At the same time, Microsoft says that the experiment provided important insights into how people actually use AI chatbots. Among other things, many users aren’t just looking for confirmation but actually want more nuanced and engaging conversations.
