Archie Gray speaks like a Tottenham captain: ‘It has been unacceptable, we need to take responsibility’
Archie Gray has offered his backing to team-mate Antonin Kinsky after the Tottenham goalkeeper endured a difficult Champions League night in Madrid.
Atletico Madrid did not fail to compound Tottenham Hotspur’s misery when the two sides met at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the first leg of their round-of-16 Champions League tie.
Three quick-fire goals sent the Spanish outfit on course for victory as individual errors proved costly for Tottenham.
Micky van de Ven was one culprit, with his slip allowing a clear one-on-one opportunity for Atleti’s second of the night.

However, Antonin Kinsky was also at the centre of it all as the Czech international made his Tottenham Champions League debut.
It was a debut to forget, as a slip of his own handed Diego Simeone’s men an early goal in the sixth minute, before another mistake nine minutes later saw Atleti go three up.
Igor Tudor then opted to put the 22-year-old out of his misery with a substitution in the 16th minute, but team-mate Archie Gray has now come out in support of the young shot-stopper.
Speaking to the BBC after the match, Gray addressed both the result and Kinsky’s difficult evening.
He said: “It’s obviously a disappointing result. We did not help ourselves with the best start. It was difficult to come back into the game after that. We have to focus on the next game and the second leg after that.
“It’s difficult, mistakes happen, it is part of football. Tony [Kinsky] is young. I have made mistakes, everyone has, especially when you are younger. When it costs goals it is disappointing. But he is strong mentally so he will get through this, he will be alright.
“We have got to take responsibility, what has happened in this game and in the Premier League. In quite a lot of games this season it has been unacceptable. We have to take responsibility and push on.”
Spurs errors underline wider issues during difficult season
While Kinsky is the one making the headlines, he is far from the only one responsible for where Tottenham currently are.
Individual mistakes have been a recurring theme throughout the season, with several players also sent off for needless tackles that have proved costly.
The young goalkeeper will now need to show strong mentality if he is to bounce back and continue performing at the highest level.
